Prologue~

The Universe is a complicated place, filled with countless abnormalities that no one can be prepared for.  To live one's life trying to avoid death is pure folly, because in the end they never live.  Life is about companionship, experiences both good and bad, and the continuation of generations.

Across this great planet there are many wondrous sights to behold both simple and grand.  On the Urevagen Peninsula, there is a convergence of many species that have populated the world.  You see, the Peninsula wasn't always a peninsula; it was an island.  I lived upon it for many years, until it formed with the mainland, providing entry to all the world.  For now, I just want to tell you a little about some of those species.

The Humes, a complex race that populate certain regions of the planet, also follow the simple, yet overarching role of life.  However, compared to other primitive beings, Humes tend to get more out of life, despite their rough surroundings.  They stay together longer, experience everything together, and do more than just pass on their own being.  They love their child, like no other.  In turn, they love each other more than they could ever without it.  It is also important to note that Humes do not always choose to follow the guidelines of life, and make their own paths.  Some would say that this is also a part of life but in truth, life has no guidelines.

The Humes were the last race to migrate to Urevagen.  Their inquisitive minds always seeking to explore new places.  Unfortunately, their curiosity has brought much pain and suffering in Urevagen.  Their tenacity to take on the challenges they face in this new land is what helped them become strong.  They are united in all that they do, whether it be for success or failure.

They aren't all that special.  They aren't as strong as most other animals that live on the planet.  They aren't as smart as other animals either.  But their sheer number and incredible will provides them with plenty of flexibility when it comes to both brain and brawn.  Perhaps that is why they have survived for so long.  Fate would deem them unworthy of progressing very far, but they always seem to persevere.

Life is such a fickle thing, although I am not one to speak from experience.  It is only through storytelling that I understand the complex emotions surrounding the hardship in losing one's beloved, the triumph of defeating an opponent in battle, the joy of seeing a newborn grow, or the sadness of being truly alone.  There are plenty of experiences in life, and a long one I have had, but sometimes it is difficult to remember everything along the way.  It helps to pass on the stories of the world so that mistakes can be avoided, and happiness can be shared for the life-forms to come.

Let's move on to the Quinta.  They are highly-evolved people, which dwell in the secluded regions of the world, away from those who would trouble their finite, structured lifestyle.  They believe themselves better than most other species, and have the power to prove it.  They pride themselves on their knowledge and their graceful strength.  However, they have the restraint to wield their strength.  The Quinta follow life along with all other animals, but they give more thought to the plants that also reside on the land.  They believe that they are overlooked, and deserve protection from those who would do harm to them.  In doing so, the Quinta have achieved a bond with nature to which no other race has.

Nature is not only the environment, what you see around you, but also an entity.  It is not just what you see around you, but it is what you see around you.  This is difficult to explain without providing an example.  If you look at grass, do you not see it?  Does it not shine in the light?  Do you not smell its fragrance?  Watch as the wind pushes the grass to and fro, does it not move?  When you touch it, can you not feel it dig into your skin ever so slightly?  Taste it if you must, but please be advised that you may only get the right sensation if you are a herbivore!  My point is, Nature is what gives grass all these attributes, and can control them.  This control is a lost device, forgotten by all but a few, until the Quinta unlocked it again.  This force, or control over Nature, is also known as magic.

The Quinta used this gift and modified its power into gems, which could control them better.  The magic would fit to the user like a lock and key, for magic cannot be controlled by just everyone.  Even among the Quinta there are only a few who possess the ability of magic.  For all others, it is knowledge that escapes them, like a riddle with no foreseeable answer.  But for those who cannot harness magic, they master other techniques that the Quinta excel at, like swordsmanship and archery.  At a certain age, the younglings will be introduced to a gem to see if they have the knowledge to use magic.  For a few, the gem will figure out the correct fit to the knowledge provided by the individual, and produce an outlet for them to release it.  And thus a magic user is created.  But not everyone is the same, and so it is unusual for any two Quinta to have the same magical knowledge.

They were the first race to venture into Urevagen.  The lush forests in the southern area of the peninsula proved to be the perfect place for them to live.  Few dare enter their domain now, for fear of upsetting their land.  The forest is thick, but deep inside, the Quinta have flourished and built there kingdom.  The Quinta's history is an interesting one, but is for a different time.  Let's continue.

The other strong race that resides on the world are the rough Gomes that live in the extremes of the planet.  They populate deserts, mountain ranges, and tundra all over the world.  When they came to Urevagen, they did not venture far, for the mountains that block the majority of the mainland from the peninsula are hospitable enough.  The Gomes have faced troubled events throughout their stay in Urevagen, but they are a race of strong, sturdy people.  They resemble Humes, just not in their height, which is shorter than most that populate the world.  Unlike the Humes however, the Gomes are an aggressive, short-tempered, territorial, and specially skilled race.  This makes them difficult to talk to, and has lead to conflict in the past.

Their special skills have made the difference in their survival.  They have funneled the power of Nature into a new being.  The gifted can shape the ground into a shell for Nature to pool energy.  Then they cut off the pool from the source and claim it.  These new beings they call "Golems" help to protect them from enemies who would take their land.  They are unique to this race.  The precise talents of the Gomes provide them and them only with the ability to form these ground titans. The golems are infinite, which makes them the perfect protector, and weapon.

But the Gomes do not only rely on golems to fight, they are a strong race after all.  They wield all forms of weaponry, often the best, most well-crafted weapons, made from the finest material they find in their mines.  Their technique is not special, but what they lack in technique, the make up for in design.  Intricate, beautiful, and deadly, these weapons are the envy of many other competent species.

The second race to populate Urevagen, Gomes thrived mostly inside the dark, rich underbelly of the various mountain ranges.  Their caves becoming lit up by magical constructs based on light and warmth seen on the surface; another special talent secured by this secluded, small race.

The Gomes live in both the Gargoan Range and the Teron Range, but the majority lived underneath a unique rock formation in a massive city constructed of tunnels; This city is called Hohen Gorant, and is the pride of all Urevagen Gomes.  The rock formation also happened to be next to the only pass that didn't block the peninsula from the mainland.  However, the entire area was lifted into the sky, including Hohen Gorant, and the rock formation.  This new, flying landmass became known as Titan, and can be seen in the sky from almost anywhere in Urevagen.

Now please, come.  Sit down next to the fire.  I would love to tell you the stories behind the Urevagen Peninsula.
The Prologue to my story/book/Whatever - The Campfire Stories.

This is my work in progress...It's still fairly basic. At the moment, I'm editing all the chapters to make it better! Feel free to read the chapters, but I can't promise it will be as good as the edited versions. The edits will add length, depth to the characters, more humor, probably more action/dialogue, more twists/side stories. Just know that they aren't my final product ^_^

I'm sorry if the lines are to close to each other. In my opinion it makes it more difficult to read T_T

EVERYONE STOP. The map of Urevagen can be found here>[link]

I made it, but the beautiful, wonderful, exceptionally talented, :iconjanuairie: remade it. GO LOOK AT HER AMAZING-NESS.

Edited! CHAPTER 1>>[link]

I hope that for those who read it, it provides you with enough interest to read my first chapter. Please, PLEASE PLEASE, PLZPLZPLZPLZPLZ, leave your thoughts, likes, dislikes, etc. in the comments. Feedback is always welcome :]

My inspiration came from multiple sources, as you might be able to tell from the Prologue!
The list includes: Christopher Paolini (first and foremost, I love his work), The creator of Game of Thrones, whom I do not know, but his/her plot concept intrigues me. If there are others I can't think of any.

This, The Campfire Stories, and all the characters, belong to me. Please do not copy. <3

Edit: I added length, more description, and what I felt like should be changed. Always subject to more change though!
